The Devil and Forty Chickens, written and performed by José Garcia Davis, is a humorous one-man show about the antics of three brothers in the village of Bernalillo, New Mexico. Recalling his wild youth, Cristobal tells this hilarious story about when he and his two teenage brothers raid a chicken farm near the Rio Grande River. They stuff forty chickens into a coop and after heaving the huge coop onto the back of their papa’s old pickup, they make their escape along the rough dirt backroads. When the Devil turns up and hisses his temptations into Cristobal’s ear, things get even wilder and the play takes on the dimensions of a good old fashioned tall tail.
