Lica Perea, Hay Baile Curator
Licia Perea is a native of Albuquerque, NM but has lived and danced in Denver, NYC, LA and recently moved to the hi-desert near Joshua Tree, CA. She has been awarded several grants from the NEA, City of LA , as well as numerous grants from CA and NM. She has taught and performed professionally as a soloist and with her companies – Danzantes and the Latina Dance Project throughout the USA and internationally. Licia has choreographed and performed in musicals, operas, music videos, commercials and film and has worked extensively in many improvisational performance settings. Now she has turned her attention to giving back to young Latinx and Black choreographers in her nationally recognized BlakTinx Dance Festival www.blaktinafestival.com

Licia is a founding member of the Latina Dance Project which is a collaborative ensemble of multidisciplinary artists exploring through performance controversial issues impacting the global community. The company’s projects create experiences that celebrate a new aesthetic in dance theater. They’re reflective of the diverse Latinx cultures, shedding light and provoking reflections that can bring about change! LDP is the engine behind producing the BlakTinx Dance Festivals in LA & Phoenix.
